(Lakewood, NJ) Lakewood snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Lexington Legends. The BlueClaws scored early and often in front of a crowd of 7,417 at FirstEnergy Park getting a run in the first and four runs in the second. With the win, the BlueClaws are 25-27 in the second half. Lexington, an Astros affiliate, has won six straight, and now is 32-22. After the game Lakewood raised $11,000 for local MS chapters by auctioning off special jerseys they wore for the game.
Lakewood got two extra base hits and three RBI from Terry Jones, who doubled in the first to bring home a run and tripled in the second, scoring Carlos Rodriguez and Jeremy Isenhower to cap a four-run rally. The BlueClaws scored all of their runs in the first two innings against Ernnie Sinclair (4-3), and that was enough for starter Alfredo Cabrera (3-0).
Cabrera allowed only a run on two hits over six innings, walking two and striking out five. Jarrod Lawson picked up his second save, working the final three innings, striking out the final two hitters after allowing a two-run homer to Ryan Kochen, his second in as many days.
The night was especially sweet for Jones, whose mother has MS. Jones now has a club best 55 RBI on the season.
Lakewood tries to make it two straight wins on Sunday at 5:05 as Francisco Butto (10-8) starts against Fernando Nieve (13-8) in a match-up of righties. Coverage on WOBM AM 1160 and www.sportsjuice.com begins at 4:50 p.m.
